Excerpts from the Arab Media & Analysis of US Policy in the Region

Did Hariri and KSA open a valuable political opportunity for Nasrallah tomorrow evening to calm Lebanese fears?

Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah will speak tomorrow evening. Barring any sudden slide to confrontation and violence (and possible missile strikes on Riyadh from Yemen throw an added element of urgency into all of this), he and his allies and a range of Lebanese leaders have a real opening and chance to portray Hariri’s move as dangerous, as being programmed from abroad (and baldly so), and stemming from weakness and as being not in the “national interest.” Whether this is the right path or not is not for me to say as a non-Lebanese. However, a real political opening could exist now for Nasrallah et al., not least because of what feels like great concern over what will happen to this country next, given the sudden resignation that can easily be criticized as having been in a Saudi interest and not a Lebanese interest.
