Mashnouk, Future Movement “hawk,” now object of ridicule from former Saudi backers
Interesting shift – translated today by our Mideastwire.com:
On June 5, the pro-monarchy Okaz newspaper carried the following report by its correspondent in Beirut Ziad Itani: “Nohad el-Mashnouk was never the object of consensus on the Lebanese political arena, even before he entered the ministers’ club as Interior Minister in Tammam Salam’s government. Indeed, the man, who emerged to the spotlight when he occupied the post of advisor to former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, always raised great and annoying commotion, which made Al-Hariri push him outside the Lebanese border and exclude him from the picture, out of fear for him, or to prevent any embarrassment with the Syrian regime, which was in control over the Lebanese details at the time. And that is the same regime with which El-Mashnouk established the best ties compared to his peers among the leaders of the Future Movement and the followers of Rafik al-Hariri – as he likes to describe himself – before entering the Cabinet.
