Russian tourism agency issues travel alert for Tunisia
The Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rosturizm) has issued a travel alert for Tunisia warning Russian citizens about an increased threat of terrorism in the country. In particular, the agency warned about terrorist attacks that were reportedly being prepared on the island Djerba and in the coastal town of Zarzis.
“Rosturizm recommends tourists to be vigilant when visiting Tunisia, to take precautionary measures. Tour operators are urged to inform their clients about security threats in the country,” Rosturizm stated in a warning published on its website, state-owned RIA Novosti news agency reported on June 2.
According to the statement, relevant agencies have informed Rosturizm that terrorist groups associated with the Islamic State group (IS, aka ISIL/ISIS) are preparing a series of attacks on tourists in the high season. Djerba and Zarzis are listed as the most probable targets.
