Al-Manar downplaying reported US role in Mughniyeah assassination?
A very interesting development noted by our Mideastwire.com team over the weekend and today – whereas Al-Akhbar as well as other (opposing) arabic media outlets have amplified the story of the key CIA role in the 2008 assassination of Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniyeah, Al-Manar has been relatively mute, barely giving much space to the angle.
Normally, when for example Seymour Hersh puts out an article in English that is seen as beneficial, or that is critical of the US role, Manar pushes the story in arabic and in english…. not so, IT SEEMS, this time.
Perhaps since the story was (similarly) viewed as more of a needle against the Israeli’s than Hizbullah – i.e. a part of the perceived American restraint over the Israelis while negotiations with Iran are in a delicate, final stage?
I would be interested if anyone noted other stories, news bits on the CIA angle – please do forward them to email@example.com!
