Excerpts from the Arab and Iranian Media & Analysis of US Policy in the Region

Stop talking about the Muslim Brotherhood coming to power – it is a distraction that gives the illusion there might be a nice turnover of power in Syria

Tony Karon in TIME has this to say:

“But fear that if the regime did collapse in a violent showdown, its most likely successor would be the Muslim Brotherhood gives pause to the U.S., Israel and the Saudis.  They may not like Assad, but he’s the proverbial devil they know, a man of predictable habit and therefore, by default, a bulwark o fa certain kind of stability. “Assad himself doesn’t know how Syria will look at the end of this week or the next,” Israeli military chief of staff Gen. Benny Gantz said Sunday. “The uncertainty is troubling him, and it is troubling us.”

— NO….the MB “taking over” is such a far down the road, after doomsday scenario that honestly it is not really worth entertaining – because it distracts from the reality that the Syrian regime will employ – and will likely be able to employ – the Samson option and fight to the last LEVANTINE and Syrian. So stop worrying about the MB issue – because there are much greater problems in the way before one has the luxury to game that one out.
