On Israel’s Syria Attack
I am confused – three nights ago Israeli TV was reporting on the fight raging IN ALEPPO….. BUT today the first strikes appear to be in damascus and near the lebanon border…. More looks set to come out…
Israel’s Channel 2 TV reports on 27 January on a battle between rebel forces and troops loyal to President Bashar al-Asad near a chemical weapons depot in the town of Al-Safirah.
Newscaster Yonit Levi says: “Concern in Israel is growing over the possibility of Bashar al-Asad’s chemical weapons ending up in the hands of terror groups. At this very moment, fighting rages on between Al-Asad and the rebels in the Aleppo area, where a large chemical weapons depot is located. Our commentator Ehud Ya’ari will update us on this battle.”
Ehud Ya’ari, Channel 2 TV’s Arab affairs correspondent, reports: “A battle is raging in very close proximity to what is possibly the Syrian army’s largest facility, or depot, of chemical weapons in the town of Al-Safirah, not too far from – that is, southeast of – the city of Aleppo. You can see in these images weapons belonging to the organization known as the Al-Nusrah Front – this is Al-Qa’idah’s Syrian branch – as they’re bombarding the plant. This is the closest they’ve reached to this facility’s gates since the fighting started. Battles have already taken place there in the past.
Levi concludes: “The great concern, of course, is that the weapons will fall into their [Al-Nusrah Front's] hands.”
