New War predictions gaining ground
I think there is still, sadly, very little public or even elite level appreciation of how dangerous the current situation is in the Middle East – in the US and in Europe lets say as a start. More mainstream reports are still getting out there – in Time Magazine this week for example, and with the ICG report here. Peter Harling and ICG in general generate some of the best analysis in ENGLISH out there on the Mideast (although some do hotly dispute this to be fair in Lebanon and beyond). One reason why I find ICG reports like the one released the other day so helpful is because they come with suggestions for SOLUTIONS – making it clear that permanent war does not have to be the case in perpetuity because of underlying, genetic predispositions. Rather it is the disposition of Negotiating Hardware and Software, which can shift and still protect core and sometimes peripheral interests effectively.
In any case, I have NOT read the report save for the summary but I LIKE IT already
A last note, when Sayyid Nasrallah spoke last night, TVs I saw around center city damascus at least were glued to his presentation – as expected and as in the past few years at least. One could sense, though, that the spectatorship was not merely vicarious and/or for theatrical enjoyment…. The various moves by the right wing Israeli government are really, truly pissing a lot of people off, as perhaps they have not in quite some time. The spirits of the homefronts vis a vis the Israelis is therefore, even with all their weaknesses, long term demographic, socio-economic threats and the daily hardships of a youthful, underdeveloped population, strengthening by the day it seems… which is a key anchor for the Resistance Axis and for any Axis to see confrontation as the only, best way forward (even if it is not).
